Cranbourne Tckle World Report

25 January 2008

CRANBOURNE TACKLE WORLD AND SHIMANO WORLD BERWICK'S FISHING REPORT
> 25-01-08
>
> It has been quite a steady week with good reports of sharks coming in from
> Bass Strait. With in the Port there is plenty of whiting and snapper
> action while over in Port Phillip the focus has turned to the schools of
> Yellow Tail kingfish which are repeatedly showing up at Mornington Pier on
> a daily basis.
>
> PIPI'S
> There has been a shock to the whiting fishing fraternity with the prices
> of pipi's going through the roof. The reason for this is due to the South
> Australian Government halving the quota that the harvesters are allowed to
> farm. Along with that, is the increase of the harvesters licence fees and
> due to supply and demand the retail pricing has increased.
> We are unable to seek pipi sacks or 2 kilo bags but can still offer the 1
> kilo and 400gram bags.
> Another alternative we are offering is a mix pack of mussels and pipi's.
> The bag still weighs a kilo but is a great option for whiting to use
> pipi/mussel cocktails which they are quite fond of.
>
> IFISH IS BACK

> nice tiger flathead, barracouta, squid and wrasse.
>

>
> GPS MARK 116
> Customer Craig Stevens aka Master Blaster fished offshore last weekend
> after getting some advice from Paul Worsteling. After grabbing a copy of

> found on page 58. Craig contacted Paul too report he had hooked and
> landed a Mako shark of 80 kilos.
>
> WESTERN PORT:
> Craig Seignior from Victorian Sport Fishing Adventures reports that the
> fishing in Western Port has been red hot. On charters he has been catching
> whiting to 40cm during the run out tides.
> Mixed in with the whiting are plenty of flathead, trevally, slimey
> mackerel and yakkas making a fun day out.
>
> RHYLL:
> Customers Ahme and George fished around the Rhyll area in 5.5m of water.
> Using sauries they have been bagging out on snapper ranging 5 - 6 kilos.
> The tide doesn't seem to matter as long as it's moving.
>
> CORINELLA:
> Customer Ron Smith fished out from Corinella to land 5 snapper to 4 kilos
> and a 4 kilo gummy shark. All fish took cured eel fillets.
>
> Customer Greg Isons had a great day on the Port during a recent trip. He
> opened up Paul's Western Port Book to a random page, picked a mark (GPS
> mark 92)
> and went on to catch 10 beautiful pinkie snapper in a hot little session.
> Squid and red rockets did the job rigged on snapper snatchers.
>
> QUAIL BANK:
> Staff members Dan, Vicki and Adam fished the last of the flood tide
> chasing whiting. Due to the pipi shortage, they decided to go out and put
> some other baits to the test. They landed 10 whiting to 43cm on peeled
> prawn, strips of salted tuna, mussels, Japanese clams and frozen beach
> worms. The best bait was baby bottle squid.
>
> TOORADIN CHANNEL
> Regular customer Colin Shelly reports good numbers of whiting in the
> Tooradin channel this week. He managed 8 fish, all around 48cm in length
> and they all took pipi baits.
>
> PORT PHILLIP BAY
> Staff Member Daniel reports talking with a customer about the kingfish
> around Mornington pier. Again, the fish have shown up in large numbers
> ranging to 6 kilos. Most of the time they are swimming past the pier but
> some anglers are hooking them when spinning with bibbed and metal lures
> when cast at the school.
>
> OUT OF TOWN;
> FRANKLIN CHANNEL - PORT ALBERT
> Customer Andrew Pipe fished the run out tide in the Franklin Channel last
> week early in the morning. Using an eagle ray wing for bait hooked and
> landed a 150 kilo bronze whaler on 10kg line. He also had another 9
> hook-ups but didn't set the hooks well enough. Well done Andrew, a great
> effort.
>
> MALLACOOTA;
> Staff member Chris Halstead fished at Mallacoota with family and friends
> during the week. Inside the lake they landed excellent numbers of Dusky
> Flathead to 77cm on soft plastics. The most productive were the 4" bass
> minnow in pearl watermelon and new penny colours as well as the 4" minnow
> grub in the golden sardine colour. They also caught Tailor, Silver
> Trevally and bream.
> Offshore the fishing was spectacular with excellent catches of gummies.
> Most fish ranged 4-6 kilos with a few fish up to 15 kilos being caught
> while drifting in 42 metres of water off The Aerials.
>
> USELESS INFORMATION:
> Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.
>
> Good Luck and Fish Hard,
>
